Reopening FAQ

Reopening FAQ

Will all Gateway campuses be open for weekend services?
Yes, all of our campuses are open for in-person services!

How many attendees will be allowed in the auditorium?
Current state guidelines say 50% capacity is allowed, but to maintain safe physical distancing, we will be at approximately 25% of our normal capacity and asking everyone to keep two seats between parties. We will change capacity and seating requirements as state regulations change.

How long will the limited capacity be enforced?
As long as our state-elected officials are recommending. We will continue to limit capacity to ensure the health and well-being of our congregation, staff, volunteers, and communities.

Do I need to register to attend the service?
Adults do not need to register to attend the service, but registration is required for children's ministry.

What if I’m not comfortable coming to a service yet?
That is okay! We know everyone has a different level of comfort, so please do what you feel is best for you and your family—whether that’s watching at home or joining us in person. If you are looking for some fellowship while watching church but aren’t comfortable coming to a service just yet, we encourage you to host a Watch Party with friends or family!

Is everyone required to wear a mask during services?
Please wear a face mask to and from your seat. (You may remove it while seated if you are unable to keep it on during the length of the service.) If you forget to bring one, we will have masks available!

Will my temperature be taken as I enter the campus?
No. However, we are asking everyone to self-screen at home. If you forget, we will have self-serve temperature stations on site. If you have a fever of 100 degrees or above, a cough or sore throat, shortness of breath, or contact with anyone confirmed to have COVID-19 (in the past 14 days), please stay home and worship with us online.

How are the facilities being cleaned and prepared for worship services?

  • Hand sanitizer stations will be available at entries and exits as well as throughout the building.
  • Our services and guest interactions will be intentionally touch-free (e.g., no hugs or handshakes for now).
  • Per state guidelines, there will be more empty space between parties seated in the auditorium.
  • Extensive cleaning and disinfecting procedures will take place campus-wide before, during, and after every service.
  • All paper and pens have been removed from the seatbacks, and we will temporarily suspend handing out note-taking cards before services.

What will the service be like?
All the things you’re used to in our weekend service will still be there—dynamic live worship, a great message with personal application, and friendly faces! To maintain physical distancing, altar ministry will temporarily take place at your seat (see next question and answer).

Can I still receive prayer at the service?
Yes, we want to pray for you! Our current plan is to have a corporate prayer at the end of service (where you will remain in your seat and stand if you have a prayer request). You can also text PRAYER to 71010, and we can connect with you digitally for personal prayer.

Can I still give my tithe or offering at the campus?
Yes, and you can also give online at or through the Gateway Church App.

What is the plan for children’s ministry?
In-person children’s ministry for ages birth through 4th grade is available at select campuses. To register your child or for more information about what we’re doing to ensure your kids have an amazing and safe time, visit We will still have children's ministry videos and activites on our website, or you can bring your children to the adults service if you’re comfortable as well.

Will the online experiences you’ve created still be available?
Yes! We plan to continue our Kids, Students, Young Adults, and Spanish online experiences.

Will the campuses be open for other activities during the week?
Our weekday activities will begin again on a case-by-case basis adhering to Governor Abbott’s state guidelines. To stay up to date, join your campus Facebook group.

Will the café and bookstore be open?
No. They will remain closed until further notice. For Gateway resources, you can visit

Is my small group allowed to meet?
After much prayer and consideration, Gateway Church is reopening groups to meet in person! Because your safety is important to us, it is recommended that in-person groups be limited to 10 people and group leaders will encourage members to follow CDC guidelines (e.g., handwashing, physical distancing, staying home if sick). Groups can also continue to meet virtually.

When will Gateway ministry trips or other local or regional outreach initiatives begin?
All Gateway ministry trips are canceled for the time being due to the current CDC and World Health Organization travel restrictions and recommendations. There are continued local outreach opportunities, and we encourage you to text CONNECT to 71010 to connect with us and find an area where you can serve. Or visit our Connect page.
